about
There’s a naivety to this song and the way that it was written that I really wanted to be translated into the production. When Tim Harvey and I were working on the recording I got to play his beautiful Wurlitzer, which lends a really nostalgic, and playful energy to the instrumentation of the track.
The sentiment of the track is a tongue in cheek exploration of capitalism and trying not to subscribe to it. Which can be really difficult when the people around you, so clearly do. In the past, as a chronic people-pleaser, I’ve definitely been quieter with my ideologies and ‘pulled-punches’ in an effort to keep the peace… and this is as much a vice in its own respect too.
lyrics
You wanna be a big shot man,
A money man,
I just want to be good,
Honey I'll roll up my sleeves I'm,
Pulling punches just because I should,
I'm always,
On my way out of the woods,
I'm always,
Trying to find just where I should,
Two more years and a payment plan,
Put too much faith in the anchor man,
Just to please ya,
But I'll wait here patiently,
With urgency to shuck that red herring,
I'm always,
On my way out of the woods,
I'm always,
Trying to find just where I should,
All of my truth,
Is all that I speak,
When you can't sleep,
I can't eat,
All of my truth,
Is all that I speak,
When you can't sleep,
I can't eat...
I'm always,
On my way out of the woods,
I'm always,
Trying to find just where I should,
Stand.
